Show Them You Care

My grandson Collin is in the Army, and will be deploying to Afghanistan soon.  We’re all very proud of him and want to support him in any way we can.

There are 3 causes I’ve been supporting, trying to make a difference in the lives of our military personnel who are serving far from home.  Please join me if you can.

1.  Thank a Soldier

This one’s easy and doesn’t  need to cost a dime.  Whenever you see a member of the military, take a moment to say thank you.  I asked Collin if  strangers have been thanking him when he’s in uniform and he said they do.  He appreciates it!

2.  Operation Christmas Cards

You need to get on the ball if you want to participate in this one.  It’s an effort to make sure that  every one of our military personnel overseas gets a Holiday greeting, with a note from the sender.  Add your email address to your note and you might get a reply from the recipient.  Don’t put postage on the cards, and don’t seal them.  They  will be read before mailing to make sure they’re appropriate.  You can include a donation in your package if you choose.

Send your cards to Operation Christmas Cards, PO Box 102, Shrewsbury, MA 01545

3. Cup of  joe for a Joe

You can buy a cup of coffee (they can use the gift for anything sold in the store), for someone serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.  You purchase cups of coffee for $2.00 each.  They are distributed to service men and women who have expressed their desire to receive the gifts.  You write a personal note with your gift, and most often the recipient will reply.  You can read about the program at their link. I enjoy doing this so much.

That’s all I have for now.  Feel free to add your fave cause in the comments.
