A small, family farm in Wisconsin

carysfeedlambsIt’s time to wean the two bottle lambs.  Carys will be sad that she can’t feed them when she comes to visit the farm.  We’ll have to find another job for her to do.

These lambs are about 2 1/2 months old, and plenty old enough to stop nursing, but they have a different view.  Weaning can be a stressful time for all of us.  The lambs are just pathetic  with their constant calling for the bottle.  This year we tried weaning them gradually instead of cold turkey.  So far it seems like a good plan.  Although they do follow and beg when they see someone, they aren’t standing at the fence crying and crying.

The lambs that are being fed by their mothers tend to be weaned by the moms.  We don’t separate them from their mothers and the ewes just get sick of it and stop letting them nurse.
